Peas may not be accepted if treated with pre‑harvest glyphosate. Check with your grain buyer before applying.
The real risk is applying late-season herbicide too early. Applying too early leaves high residue concentrations in the seed and can cause yield and quality loss. At the late end of application, we must stay within each product’s pre-harvest interval (PHI).
What to look and listen for to determine correct pre-harvest glyphosate application timing:
- 80 per cent of pods are yellow to golden brown, which means 80 per cent of the plant has turned yellow to brown in colour in 75 to 80 per cent of the field.
- Seeds rattle in the lowest pods. Bottom pods are ripe and dry with seeds detached from the pod.
- Top of the plant may still be slightly green in colour.
- Top pods appear wrinkled and seeds inside are firm. A firm seed will split rather than squash under pressure.
️Too early warning:
Green pods or seeds still attached to pods indicate immature peas and increased residue risk.
Recommended harvest timing:
Minimum seven days after pre‑harvest glyphosate application.
