On July 28, The On-Farm Network (OFN) co-hosted near Dauphin an on farm research tour together with Manitoba Crop Alliance and Manitoba Canola Growers. This is the second year in a row this event has been held.
There were presentations on 4R nutrient management and how nutrient management pertains to tile drainage. Following the 4R nutrient management, there were tour stops at a soybean trial (double vs. single inoculant), a canola field and a wheat trial (plant growth regulator vs untreated).
The goal of the tour is to promote on-farm research in Manitoba and strengthen the network. Attendance exceeded 60 people and there were many local farmers, some agronomists and media people.
Current OFN field activities are disease ratings in soybean, pea and dry bean fungicide trials and plant tissue sampling at all foliar potassium, boron and starter phosphorus trials. Finally, it’s hard to believe, but pea harvest is just around the corner with pea trials being harvested quite possibly as early as the weekend.
