Carman, MB (May 27, 2015) – The Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers (MPSG) Bean App is now available in the App Store for free download to Apple device users. The Bean App also features a brand new Seeding Rate Calculator to determine the economically optimum seeding rate in addition to the previously existing Soybean Plant Stand Assessor and Soybean Yield Estimator tools.
All of the tools available in the MPSG Bean App are great examples of how the results of scientific research can be applied directly to production practices. The Bean App will continue to be available as a web application for Android, Blackberry and Windows users. Download the MPSG Bean App free from the App store or iTunes for Apple devices or use the web application here for Android, Blackberry, and Windows.
- Seeding Rate Calculator determines the economically optimum seeding rate by first identifying the economically optimum target plant stand. The optimum target plant stand fluctuates depending on soybean price and seed cost. A suggesting seeding rate is then calculated based on expected seed survival which is farm specific depending on equipment, field conditions, seed quality etc.
- Plant Stand Assessor can be used to assess live plant populations 3-4 weeks after planting and provide feedback based on scientific research conducted in Manitoba.
- Soybean Yield Estimator can be used in late summer to ‘estimate’ soybean yield. You may find it useful to estimate your soybean yield to help aid in judging storage capacity and budgeting.
