New varieties deliver high performance, agronomics and defensive traits specifically targeted to Canadian growers.
CHATHAM, Ontario, Dec. 13, 2011 – Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, recently announced 33 new soybean varieties. Ten of those varieties have been added to the Canadian lineup for 2012 to provide growers improved traits and yield-boosting qualities.
“Pioneer soybean breeders focus on delivering strong agronomic traits paired with top-end yield potential,” says Lisa Jenkins, Pioneer marketing manager for Eastern Canada. “Pioneer continues to deliver products that meet growers’ needs on a field-by-field basis, targeting the right product for the right acre.”
New Pioneer® brand soybean products cover the full range of soybean growing areas across Canada from very early to full-season maturity. New varieties with resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN) and multi-race Phytophthora resistance lead the soybean product lineup for 2012. Also in the lineup is an early conventional variety suitable for the Identity Preserved (IP) market.
Key products in this year’s lineup include the following:
• 900Y61 (RR) is a new leader well-suited for the Red River Valley of Manitoba. It provides Phytophthora resistance with the Rps1c gene, along with strong field emergence. Additionally, it has outstanding harvest standability.
• 91Y41 (RR) is a high performing variety with built-in SCN resistance. It is a taller variety with moderate canopy width making it a good choice for no-till systems.
• 92Y12 (RR) is a new variety with exceptional yield potential. It offers excellent agronomics with a solid disease resistance package.
• 92Y74 (RR) offers high yield potential and built-in SCN resistance. It is shorter in stature with good white mould tolerance making it an excellent option for high fertility fields.
Pioneer research efforts have greatly increased over the last number of years. “Pioneer has nearly doubled the number of soybean researchers on the ground across Canada in the past three years so we can continue delivering soybean products with traits growers want and need,” Jenkins says. “Our soybean pipeline is full. Here in Canada we are adding 10 new varieties for this year and will be seeking registration support for an even greater number of new varieties in January.”
Additional research priorities for Pioneer include increasing the annual rate of yield gain, delivering improved products to growers at a faster pace and improving key defensive traits to satisfy customer needs.
